Being Selfish

Suzanne Collins creates a picture of Katniss Everdeen being very selfish during the end of the last book Mockingjay mostly by showing how everyone should pity her. Katniss has lost almost everyone dear to her and can no longer be the same person she once was. The girl who was on fire had lost her flame and the room that was once so full of light was now in an eternal darkness. Yet she still awaits for pity on her soul, the pity she does not get. Not everything is about Katniss, she needs to realize that she isn't the only one who has lost things that hold much importance.

Katniss acts as if everything is about her, as if she is the main character (which she is). Even so, she acts as if no one else has lost anything. Peeta has lost his family and can hardly remember if any of his memories were real or fake after the hijacking. Katniss's mother has lost not only her husband, but her 12 year old daughter Primrose. Then there's Katniss, who had lost her father, her little sister, Rue, Cinna, Finnick and many more. All of them had died because of her, the Mockingjay. Without realizing    that many had lost the same things as she did, only she searches for pity.

I feel that Katniss needs to open up to the world around her. Everyone has lost something, at least one thing that is precious to them. Thats just selfish, to want pity for yourself when you know that your not the only one who has lost something.

Just Stand By Me, And Everything Will Be Alright

* Sorry I did not post a blog post last week, I was very sick. However, I will make up that blog post by doing it over the weekend, just giving you guys a heads up.

Stand By Me is a story about four young friends around the age of 13, (Geordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern) going on an adventure looking for the dead body of another young boy their age. The journey really changes them and opens their eyes to who they really are and what they want to be. At first, the reason behind going to see the dead boy was so that people wouldn't look down on them (Mostly their families)/ be proud of them. But then, it changed when the fire nation attacked they realized that there is  no personal gain from finding a dead boy body. The journey made them realize that only they themselves can become noticed for who they really are by doing the thing they love most.

In the beginning of Stand By Me, the four boys were dying to go see the boys dead body so that they could become "famous". In the end, though, the four boys were a little shaken up from seeing the dead body, especially for Geordie because it triggered some bad memories of the past. However, It helped them realize that finding something that people have been looking for for a long time doesn't get you anything but thanks. It's showing people that your not like everyone else and your special that gets you to be admired. Another thing that sometimes, you want to get out of some place and go somewhere where no one know you, but all you have to do is stay strong to what people say, because you know the truth, not them.

All in all, you choose who you want to be, no matter what anyone says. Ignore the people that don't know the real you, they know nothing, have no idea what it's like to be you. Just hold your head up high and stand by someone, because everything is going to be alright.

Multiple Personalities

Currently, I am reading the book, "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare and have so far come up with the conclusion of the most interesting and thought provoking character, which is Mercutio (The prince's kinsman and Romeo's BFF). I'm pretty sure he suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID) or multiple personality disorder (MPD). I mean come on, at one moment he gets in between Tybalt (Kinsman to the Capulet's) and Romeo saying something along the lines of calm down and all of a sudden it is Rome whom has to hold him back from clawing Tybalt's eyes out. That doesn't mean that there aren't any good personalities projected from him, he just seems a little loony. However, even though he may act as a lunatic at some points, that's what defines him a an interesting character.

Mercutio is unpredictable, you''l never be able to infer what his next move is. So far, we have seen Mercutio as crazy, wise, mean, caring and as  peace-maker. That's why I think Mercutio is interesting, because he seems to be a mix of different people inside of one body. Its like Mercutio is an oxymoron himself, he is wise when giving advice to Romeo on love, but is foolish for blindly attacking Tybalt for he had started a fight (Tybalt had, not Mercutio or Romeo). He gets crazy when making fun of Romeo and getting lost in his words, but is sane for caring about Romeo's state in the beginning. Additionally, what makes him more interesting is that when Mercutio was on the verge of death, he shouted, "I am hurt. A plague o' both your houses! I am sped. Is he gone, and hath nothing?" It was as if he was curing them, saying, "YOU WILL PAY!" or its like he's saying someone will suffer in the end like he did. It's as if he knew that Romeo and Juliet were going to die, for he had cursed both the Montague's and the Capulet's families to share his fate, to lose something that they care for deeply.

In conclusion, Mercutio is just a puzzle himself waiting to be solved. When I say that I think that Mercutio has multiple personality disorder, I don't mean it in an offensive way, but rather in a way that shows that hes different than others. No, being different isn't a bad thing, for it shows your uniqueness. For Mercutio, he is unique because he is basically a character that's more than meets the eye.

Imagine

Imagine by John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky

Imagine all these conflicting factors in life as if they were not there at all. As if we weren't to do since had no place to go to when done so.

Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for

Imagine peace with one another, and not having to kill out all. Not having any conflict or war between countries, even though thats hard to think of.

And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one

Imagine not having to live being discriminated or treated rashly because of ones religion. John Lennon is dreaming of everyone in peace, and he's not the only one.

I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

John Lennon hopes that soon, everyone can imagine this and become one with everyone and everything.

I believe that John Lennon wants people to imagine world peace, with everyone and everything. He is persuading people to desire peace between us all. To forget about everything, about our race, religion, gender, anything and think about world peace. We are all one no matter how you interpret it. We can truly achieve peace if we put our minds to it.

I think this song really does want me to imagine a better place. No racism, no bullying, no fighting. A place full of peace and freedom. Sadly, this song also makes me think of how our world came to be and how terrible it is today. With everyone killing one another and countries going to war. Poverty just at the bottom of our noses. This songs makes me think of how badly our world needs peace.

In conclusion, John Lennon hopes for world peace and also hopes for us to desire so too. Not only that, but he hopes that we can complete that wish as well. Sadly, it won't happen, because finding peace everywhere in this world is like finding a toothpick in a needle stack. Ouch.

Who are you fighting for, Katniss?

In the book, "Mockingjay", by Suzanne Collins, it seems as though Katniss is able to cooperate with the rebels (Who she was taken 'capture' of not to long ago) rather than being able to cooperate with the capital (Who had more experience with her). I believe that is because she was born to be a rebel from the beginning, not follow the rules. It comes natural to Katniss, especially when innocent people are brought into 'her' mess. Katniss, the natural born rebel, will try her best at succeeding the position of the rebels mockingjay. Not for only for her friends, not only for her family, but the innocent people dragged into this nonsense as well. Its her duty to protect those who are not guilty. She is the mockingjay, it is her.

I believe Suzanne Collins wants me to understand that Katniss isn't becoming the mockingjay because she is forced to anymore, no. Katniss must become the mockinjay because it is her own will to save all the people she might put an end to. She wants me to realize that she can't back down now, not when she has added fuel to the fire. It was as if she was chosen to fight against the rebels all along. Suzanne Collins wants me to know that now its Katniss's choice to make her own decisions, whether they are for a good cause, or bad.

I think this whole time she was on the rebels side. Almost every move she made proved my theory correct. All this time, she wanted all the people of all districts to stop their hunger and put an end to the capital, which also caused it. She couldn't stand by and watch her people suffer, she had to stand up and fight. Katniss did not fight for her own district, family or friends, but all the innocent people that suffered as a whole by the capital.

Keeping Our Food Safe

The Food and Drug Administration proposed to improve our foods safety. This proposal was announced after many illnesses had infected our race by the cause of our food.

Dr. Margaret Hamburg, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration stated in a press conference," We have one of the safest food supplies in the world, but we have to stop food borne illnesses before they start." I believe that some people do not understand, nor care about how our race could be affected if we don't take care of our food.

Lots of food's were found to be infected with germs and bacteria that cause illnesses, from vegetables to   meats to fruits.

The most common illnesses found in our food would be salmonella and e.coli, in which both are dangerous bacteria that cause not only stomach pain, but food poisoning as well.

Salmonella is a bacterium that occurs mainly in the intestine of our body's, or in other words, food poisoning caused by infection's. Salmonella is usually found in our meat products only.

E.coli is also a bacteria that occurs mainly in the intestine of our body's. E.coli can be found in meats, (Especially ground beef) vegetables, fruits, and even dairy products.

Usually, salmonella or e.coli infect our bodies when the food is uncooked or not prepared in the right way.

Cameron Keady with TIME Reporting wrote, "FDA estimates that nearly 130,000 American a year are hospitalized for food-related problems." That shows that we seriously do need to take care of our food if its infecting that many people.

The Food and Drug Administration made two rules, "Manufacturers selling food in the U.S. must have formal plans for preventing contamination and for fixing problems when they occur, and to eat certain foods raw."

I believe that the author wanted me to know that some of the foods that I'm eating are not safe and
my friends, and our society as a whole.

I feel that the author wanted me to think that not everything we eat is safe.

The authors purpose of writing this article was to get more people to support the Food and Drug Administration.
